NORMAN — The popular On the Border restaurant in Norman was destroyed by fire early today, officials said.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said firefighters were notified of the blaze at 1:18 a.m. When they arrived they found heavy smoke throughout the structure at 3000 William Pereira Drive, just off the Ed Noble Parkway in west Norman.

Two managers were on the scene and evacuated the building. No injuries were reported.

Bailey said the building's roof collapsed and there was heavy damage throughout. "It appears to be a total loss," Bailey said.

Six fire stations and 49 firefighters responded to the fire which took more than two hours to extinguish.
