OKLAHOMA CITY —
Coach Ken Eriksen was pleased with the way his team opened the tournament, and he was especially impressed, if not surprised, by Gibson’s performance.
“That’s typical Gibson,” he said. “When you see it every day you have to step back and appreciate it. We hit on all the right plays, and the focus was tremendous. It was a great effort.”
Next up for the United States is a 7 p.m. matchup today against Australia before taking on Japan and Puerto Rico on Saturday and Sunday. If they make it to the title game, they will then face one of those four squads again at 8 p.m. Sunday for the World Cup title.
