NORMAN — Norman firefighters responded to an apartment fire in southeast Norman at 5 p.m. Friday at Vicksburg Village Apartments, 200 Vicksburg Avenue.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said when firefighters arrived on scene they found a kitchen fire with no residents home. There were no injuries reported.

The fire did not extend outside of the apartment unit, but the kitchen area and sheet rock were damaged, Bailey said. Preliminary damage estimates are $15,000 for the structure and $5,000 for the contents of the apartment.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire and another 20 minutes to ventilate smoke out of the building, he said.

The fire is under investigation by the Norman Fire Marshal’s Office. It is not being investigated as suspicious, Bailey said.
