Another Big 12 newcomer award for Spangler

Sooner forward gets the nod for the second time in four weeks

STILLWATER — Oklahoma men's basketball player Ryan Spangler earned his second Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor, the conference office announced Monday.

Spangler averaged 13.0 points and 11.7 rebounds in OU's three games last week, all wins. The forward shot 60.9 percent from the field and was 10 for 13 from the free-throw line while adding four assists and four blocked shots. He shared the honor with Baylor junior guard Kenny Chery.

Spangler began the week with career highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 96-82 win over reigning Atlantic Sun Conference champion Mercer. Three days later he scored six points and pulled down nine boards in a 78-56 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. On Sunday in Washington, D.C., the 6-8, 232-pounder notched his fourth double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds while going 5-for-6 at the foul line in an 81-66 victory over George Mason.

On the year, Spangler, is averaging 11.2 points and ranks second in the Big 12 with his 9.3 rebounds per outing.
