OKLAHOMA CITY —

Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by Oklahoma City police officers on the shoulder of Interstate 35.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Dexter Nelson says Simon Ramirez was fatally shot Wednesday night. Authorities say officers shot Ramirez when he allegedly pointed a gun at them.

Police were attempting to question him about a possible stolen vehicle. The fatal shooting shut down parts of Interstate 35 on the busy travel day before Thanksgiving.

Mark Nelson, vice president of the Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police, says the officers shot the suspect in self-defense. Nelson says the FOP will assist the officers in any way they can.
