NORMAN — Norman city staff working with Lindsey Street design consultant, SAIC is recommending a continuous, raised center median on Lindsey to support landscaping and provide a “triple canopy” of landscape design. The recommendation to Norman City Council comes on the heels of the University of Oklahoma Institute for Quality Communities’ list of recommendation for the city’s corridor to the university.
Also proposed by the IQC were three modern roundabouts to slow traffic and to replace two existing signal lights. Cty staff does not support roundabouts “due to traffic capacity concerns, scheduling delays, right-of-way requirements, possible loss of federal funding and additional project costs,” according to a report issued by city staff and SAIC this week.
The city council is expected to make a decision on the final design and any proposed changes sometime this month.
