OKLAHOMA CITY —
President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster in Oklahoma stemming from a severe winter storm in early December.
Obama ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts for the Dec. 5-6 storm. Federal funding will be available on a cost-sharing basis for facility repair work in four counties: Choctaw, Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha.
Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures across the state.
FEMA says additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state.
The storm knocked out power to thousands of residents in southeastern Oklahoma and is blamed for 10 deaths. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin says preliminary estimates peg damage costs at $6.5 million.
