OKLAHOMA CITY — More dominant pitching paved the way for another Oklahoma win Friday during the Big 12 tournament at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Dillon Overton, Ralph Garza Jr. and Kindle Ladd combined to blank the Red Raiders in an 8-0 victory that lifted the Sooners (38-19) to 2-0 in the tournament with only Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. matchup with top-seeded Kansas State left in pool play.
If the Sooners remain this stingy about giving up runs, it shouldn’t be a problem. They haven’t allowed a run in the last 19 innings.
Overton held the Red Raiders (25-30) scoreless over the first give innings. Garza followed with three scoreless innings and Ladd closed out the ninth.
Overton (9-2) picked up the victory. It was the left-hander’s first win since April 20. He only allowed three runs on five hits. He walked three, but struck out five.
It was a razor-tight game until the ninth inning when OU pulled away by scoring five runs in their last at-bat.
