Man is expected to survive

OKLAHOMA CITY —

Oklahoma City investigators say a 28-year-old auto theft suspect is in critical but stable condition after he was shot by a police officer.

Police Department spokesman Capt. Dexter Nelson says Sgt. Bradley Conley, a seven-year veteran of the department, was placed on routine administrative leave following the shooting of Justin Donald Horton.

The shooting occurred early Sunday while Conley was investigating a report of a stolen car. Nelson says the officer located the vehicle and stopped it. The suspect fled on foot, but eventually turned and faced the officer.

Nelson says Conley then realized the suspect was holding a gun. Nelson says the suspect put the gun to his own head and shot himself, then pointed it at the officer. Conley then shot the suspect.

Horton is expected to survive.
