The Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s contractor will be closing all ramps to and from I-35 at the Indian Hills Road overpass at 7 tonight and reopening the ramps by 6 a.m. Friday.
Official said the shutdown is necessary to remove the portable median barriers that were utilized during the recent repairs on the overpass. The Indian Hills Road bridge was having structural issues on the bridge deck and multiple patches to the concrete had been required within the previous year. Inspection showed that there was significant damage to the deck and structure.
ODOT and the City of Norman partnered to complete the necessary repairs to maintain the operational use of the bridge. During the completion of the work it was determined that the deck had more damage and the contract was extended to make these necessary additional repairs.
