Teen facing new charge in slaying of Australian baseball player

DUNCAN — Michael Dewayne Jones is facing murder in the first degree charge in the shooting death of Christopher Lane.

Previously 17-year-old Jones was charged as a youthful offender with charges including use of vehicle in discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact in murder in the first degree. Jones appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing conference for the new charge.

Jones was one of three Duncan teens arrested for Lane's shooting in August. The other two (James Edwards Jr. and Chancey Luna) have been charged as adults facing murder in the first degree, also. A gag order has been put in effect for the cases againt the teens.
