NORMAN — The temporary hospital facility to replace Moore Medical is targeted for opening by early November, according to Norman Regional Health System project leaders. The Norman Regional Hospital Authority approved plans for the modular emergency department and supporting services at its board meeting Monday.

“This is not a trailer or a portable classroom. This is a facility that meets all life safety codes,” said Greg Terrell Sr., NRHS senior vice president and COO. “This is a fully functional ED.”

Joplin also set up a temporary hospital following the tornado the EF-5 tornado that hit the Missouri town on May 22, 2011. Now that full-scale hospital facility is being dissassembled.

“A  lot of our facility will come from Joplin,” Terrell said.

NRHS will lease the facility rather than buying it. Both the modular and the permanent facilty serving Moore in the future will have tornado shelters.

The temporary facility will be located on the southwest corner of the property near Telephone Road and Warren Theatre. It will consist of a series of interconnected buildings and the interior will look like a real hospital.
