NORMAN — There was a lot of talk in the offseason about Oklahoma shifting its base defense to a 3-4 after using a 4-3 since Bob Stoops arrived in 1999. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said Monday the Sooners will use both this season.
"We want to be multiple in everything we do," he said. "We’ll mix and match based on what we’re getting in terms of personnel. Whether that’s a three- or a four-man front is predicated on what the offense brings."
From talking to players, it appears the Sooners will use a three-man front when it faces spread offenses. Against team using two running backs or a tight end, they stick with four defensive linemen.
