Tickets still available for metro community Christmas musical celebration

MIDWEST CITY — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are joining with friends in the community to herald in the Christmas season with song.

“Joy to the World: A Christmas Musical Celebration” is a choral concert set for Dec. 20-21 at the Rose State Performing Arts Theatre in Midwest City. Performances will be at 6 and 8:30 p.m. both days.

“We are excited to share ‘Joy to the World,’ a musical celebration of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, with our friends and neighbors in Oklahoma,” said Lyle Williams, local Latter-day Saint leader and concert managing director. “This Christmas celebration will feature a community choir coordinated by the LDS Church with guest conductor Dr. Cory Evans, Utah State University Director of Choral Activities.”

The choir is made up of volunteers in central Oklahoma from a variety of faiths.

Favorite Christmas songs performed during the concert will include “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol,” “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Once in Royal David’s City.” The concerts will include performances by the Oklahoma City Handbell Ensemble.

Tickets are available through the OKC Civic Center box office by phone at 297-2264 or online at Tickets are $10 and cover operating expenses.

This is the second annual “Joy to the World” concert hosted by the church in central Oklahoma. Hundreds attended two performances Dec. 22, 2012, at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. Dr. Craig Jessop, former Mormon Tabernacle Choir director, served as the guest conductor.
