Bethel Baptist to host Fresh Start, guest speaker

NORMAN — Several events will be hosted this weekend at Bethel Baptist Church.

On Saturday, the church will host Fresh Start for Norman. The community event will offer free haircuts, clothing, health screenings and lunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Annex building, 1132 McGee Drive.

The event is completely free for the community; those in attendance will receive a clean pair of socks, a clothing gift certificate, a haircut, health screenings, a Bible and lunch.

The first 30 people will receive a coupon for one free wash and one free dry at the Hollywood Cleaners and Laundry.

The short Billy Graham film, “Defining Moments,” will be shown during the event.

Bethel Baptist is partnering with many agencies to host the event, including Mission Norman, Variety Care, OU College of Nursing, Imagine, A Paul Mitchell Partner School, Eden Clinic, the Salvation Army, Food and Shelter and Community Action Ministries.

In case of inclement weather, notification will be given and the event will be Feb. 22 at the same location.

For more information, call Andy Peck at 642-1024 or email

On Sunday, the church will offer a Day of Hope. All four of Bethel’s services will focus on hope from addiction, brokenness and shame.

The guest speaker will be Lance Lang, from Hope is Alive Ministries.

Lang grew up as a pastor’s son, was leading a $30 million project management firm by 25 and turned to drugs, alcohol and prescription drugs as a way to cope with the stress.

Lang found sobriety with the help of Rob’s Ranch, a Christ-based treatment center for men. Since then, he has founded Hope is Alive Ministries and runs a sober living house out of his home.

Bethel service times and locations for Day of Hope include:

· 8:15 a.m. — 1717 W. Lindsey St.

· 10:45 a.m. — 1717 W. Lindsey St.

· 10:45 a.m. — 1132 McGee Drive, contemporary worship
