Mayor’s Interfaith Breakfast to be hosted

NORMAN — To bring Norman’s diverse faith communities together and to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mayor Cindy Rosenthal and the Norman Human Rights Commission will host the Mayor’s Interfaith Breakfast on Jan. 20 in the Fellowship Hall at First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster Ave.

Doors will open at 7 a.m., with the program beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. George Henderson, Goldman professor emeritus and founder of the Human Relations Program at the University of Oklahoma and former dean of the College of Liberal Studies.

Henderson has received numerous honors for his academic work and for his strong leadership in social change efforts locally and throughout Oklahoma.

Spiritual commentary will be offered by representatives of several faiths.

“We are delighted to welcome our faith communities on this special occasion of inspiration and celebration as we reflect on Dr. King’s legacy. His ideals of the dignity of all human beings are timeless and as important today as ever,” said Kay Ham, chairperson of the Norman Human Rights Commission.
