Norman residents to serve 18-month missions

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma Price College of Business student Dana Hoggan will leave Oct. 16 to serve an 18-month mission in the Montana Billings Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rose State College student Tanner Moody also is preparing to leave Nov. 6 to serve an 18-month mission in the Brazil Vitória Mission.

Before going to Montana, Hoggan will spend 10 days in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. She will study the teachings of Jesus Christ and how to share that knowledge with others.

“I want to serve a mission so that I can help others draw closer to Jesus Christ. As I have tried to make Christ the focus of my own life, I have felt immeasurable joy and peace,” she said. “I hope that through my service, I can help others feel that same joy and feel God’s infinite love more fully in their own lives.

“My faith has been a constant source of strength for me in many different difficulties. I know that as I devote this time to God, my faith will increase and I will be strengthened in numerous ways. I am so excited for this amazing opportunity.”

A 2011 Norman North High School graduate, Hoggan was a National Merit Scholar and received a full-ride scholarship to OU.

Hoggan is a graduate from the LDS Seminary religious education program and the LDS Institute of Religion. She also earned her LDS Young Womanhood Recognition award, which included many hours of community service, scripture study and the development of personal talents.

Before going to Brazil, Moody will spend about six weeks in the Missionary Training Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil, learning the Portuguese language. She also will study the teachings of Jesus Christ and how to share that knowledge with others.

“I want to serve a mission because this church makes me so happy, I know it’s true and I just want to share it with people so they can know, too,” Moody said. “I want to make a difference in someone’s life.”
