NORMAN — A Lenten study series will be held at First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster Ave., on Feb. 17, Feb. 24, March 3, and March 10.

“Every year the Adult Education Committee puts together a four week series that offers a variety of workshops on biblical, theological and spiritual topics. Lent is a time of year when Christians are encouraged to explore their identity as people of faith. It is a time to wonder about different areas of the spiritual journey and to explore ideas and practices that can enrich the Christian life. So these workshops are designed to help people do that,” the Rev. Dr. Gary L. Hardwick said.

The workshops are open to anyone, and there is no charge to attend. A meal will be served at 5 p.m. and workshops will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

“All that we ask is that people register so we have plenty of food and space,” Hardwick said.

Those interested can call the church office at 329-2192 or email gary@fccnorman.org.

The series includes:

· “Caregivers or Carelessers?” Joe Ted Miller, retired Episcopal priest, March 3, 10: Explore the relationship between faith and concern for the environment.

· “Faces Along the Way-Galilee to Golgotha,” the Rev. Les Brown, retired Disciples of Christ minister, Feb. 17, 24, March 3, 10: Four self-contained sessions that explore some of the people Jesus encounters on his journey from his ministry in Galilee to Jerusalem and his crucifixion.

· “When Religion Hurts,” Barbara and Tom Boyd, OU Religious Studies Department, Presbyterian clergy, Feb. 17, 24: What are ways the church can be hurtful: Spiritually, theologically and practically?

· “Religion and Science,” Hardwick, Feb. 17, 24: Why is the relationship between religion and science often so troubled?

· “How To Talk About Your Faith,” Hardwick, March 3, 10: Individuals can be hesitant to talk about their religious faith in open ways or in the public arena.
