NORMAN — The United Church of Norman-UCC’s speaker series, “The Progressive Sermon I Always Wanted to Preach...” features its fifth speaker, Mike Bumgarner, at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The six-part series is intended to address evolving theological thinking taking place in progressive Christian churches. The final speaker will be the Rev. Phil Fenn. The lecture will take place at The United Church of Norman-UCC, 1017 Elm Ave.
Bumgarner has been a full time staff chaplain at the Norman Regional Health Systems since 2004. Bumgarner is a graduate of Wayland Baptist University and the Southwestern Theological Seminary. After seminary, he trained at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and he did campus ministry at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. In 1985, he was called to the First Baptist Church of Norman, and for 19 years, he served that church as college minister and minister of pastoral care. Bumgarner and his wife, Leslie, attend NorthHaven Church.
