NORMAN — Alameda Church of Christ
Sunday, Senior Minister Rusty Tugman will begin “A Christmas Story” sermon series with the lesson “Deliverer.”
Brookhaven Baptist Church
James “Jimmy” Hoipkemeir will preach the Sunday sermon.
Sunday’s sermon is titled “Shoes — The Life of Nicodemus,” from John 3.
Faith Pointe Baptist Church
Pastor Gann will preach “Being Content,” from Philippians 4:10-13.
First Baptist Church
“The Good News of Christmas” will be the theme for the first Sunday of Advent. Dr. Wade Smith will bring the sermon during classic worship while the Rev. Jim Stewart, associate pastor, will bring the sermon during LifeSong worship, both focusing on “The Good News of Hope.”
First Christian Church
Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, with the candle of Hope lighted by The Holladay Family in the 8:40 a.m. service and The Lee Family in the 10:45 a.m. service. Sunday’s sermon is titled “Hope — Beginning at the End” based on Luke 21:25-36 with the Rev. David Spain preaching.
First Church of Christ, Scientist
Sunday’s sermon is titled “God the Only Cause and Creator.”
First Presbyterian Church
On the First Sunday of Advent, the Rev. Dr. Bob Rice will preach a sermon titled “Advent: For Those Who Don’t Have It Together” based on Luke 18:9-14. There will be only one worship service during December at 11 a.m. The annual Advent Craft Festival will begin in Alexander Hall at 4 p.m.
McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church
Sunday will begin a new sermon series, “The Best Christmas Ever.” The Rev. Linda Harker (sanctuary services) and the Rev. Randy Wade (Lifeline service in Fenn Hall) will preach a sermon titled “Giving Up on Perfect,” from Romans 12:2.
Memorial Presbyterian Church
Sunday morning will be a service of Advent readings and music. The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated.
On the First Sunday of Advent, Dr. R. Mitch Randall will bring the message “The Right Tree,” from Jeremiah 33:14-16. There will be Advent banners and the lighting of the Advent candle. The children will have time with Randall as they discover together what is inside the mystery bag. The choir will sing “Prepare the Way,” by Lloyd Larson from “Shout the Good News.” The Global Missions Moment will kick off the Christmas mission offering.
South Canadian Valley Church of Christ
Sunday, the speaker will be David Robinson.
Trinity Baptist Church
Sunday, the congregation will celebrate and emphasize missions with several missions-minded speakers in the morning and evening worship services.
Trinity Lutheran Church (LC-MS)
The sermon for the first Sunday in Advent is titled, “The Lord Comes in Triumph,” from Luke 19:28-40. The first Wednesday soup and salad Supper at 6:30 p.m. and Advent Vespers service at 7:30 p.m. will be on Dec. 5 with the theme, “Creator of the Stars of Night, The People’s Everlasting Light.”
United Church of Norman — UCC
Kathryn Ramsey will share a message titled “Forward,” on the first Sunday of Advent.
University Christian Church
Sunday, Bobby Paulk will speak on “Sin: Binds then Grinds,” from Judges 16:1-31. This also is Blood Pressure Sunday.
University Lutheran Church and Student Center (ELCA)
On the first Sunday in Advent, the readings are from the Gospel of Luke. Pr. Joe Summerville’s sermon will focus on how God is with an individual in the past through Jesus; in the present through word and sacrament; and in the future through life eternal. The men of the church will gather at 8 a.m. on Saturday for breakfast and Bible study.
Victory Church of Norman
Senior Pastor Fred Sellers plans to continue his sermon series from the “Sermon on the Mount” and then supervise the celebration of the Lord’s Supper at the afternoon service this Sunday.
West Wind Unitarian Universalist Congregation
The congregation will have Craft Sunday. Instead of an 11 a.m. service, the congregation will gather from 10 a.m. -noon to create a variety of holiday crafts. Guests are welcome.

Sunday, Executive Pastor Mark Robinson will speak on “I Want To Be With Him,” from Isaiah 42:1-9.
