NORMAN — Alameda Church of Christ

Sunday, Senior Minister Rusty Tugman will continue “A Christmas Story” sermon series with the lesson “Immanuel/Peace.” The sermon text comes from Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 2:14.

Concord Missionary Baptist Church

A study of Simeon in the temple will be the theme of the morning service. Pastor Clark will speak from Luke 2:25-27 on the subject, “The Consolation Of Christmas.” The evening services will be centered around the continuing study in Ephesians on the subject, “Ready For Battle,” from Ephesians 6:10-13.

CrossPointe Church

Sunday will continue the Advent series, “Countdown — Room for Joy.”

Echo Church

Sunday’s topic is titled, “The Roman Centurion’s Change,” from Matthew 8.

Faith Pointe Baptist Church

Pastor Gann will preach “Overjoyed,” from Matthew 2:1-12.

First Baptist Church

Sunday’s theme for the third Sunday of Advent will be “The Good News of Christmas.” Dr. Wade Smith will bring the sermon “The Good News of Joy” during the classic and LifeSong services.

First Christian Church

Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent, with the candle of Joy lighted by the Chesley Family in the 8:40 a.m. service and the Lewis Family in the 10:45 a.m. service. Sunday’s sermon is titled “Joy – Coming Home” based on Zephaniah 3:14-20 with the Rev. David Spain preaching. The chancel choir will present Handel’s Messiah at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary, child care is provided.

First Church of Christ, Scientist

Sunday’s topic will be “Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?

First Presbyterian Church

On the third Sunday of Advent, the children and youth choirs will lead worship with a musical presentation titled “Angels Aware.” All-church Christmas caroling will meet at 4:45 p.m. in the Atrium to visit shut-ins.

McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church

Sunday will continue the sermon series, “The Best Christmas Ever.” The Rev. Linda Harker (sanctuary services) and the Rev. Randy Wade (Lifeline service in Fenn Hall) will preach a sermon titled “Jesus’ Wish List,” from John 17: 20-24. 

NorthHaven Church

For the third Sunday of Advent, the choir will present “Shout the Good News, Christmas Messengers in Scripture and Song,” by Lloyd Larson.

St. Stephen’s United

Methodist Church

During both Sunday morning services, the music ministry will present a “Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols.” The service consists of seven lessons or scripture passages concerning the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. The first lesson is traditionally read by a young child, the second by a youth, then others by leaders in the church. Each lesson is followed by an anthem sung by the adult choir or a congregational hymn. Bell choirs and a brass ensemble also will take part in the service.

South Canadian Valley Church of Christ

Sunday, Mark Woody will address the topic of “Spiritual Apathy.”

Trinity Baptist Church

Senior Pastor Ronnie W. Rogers will speak on “When the Thorn Won’t Come Out.” The morning worship will begin with the annual children’s Nativity. At 6 p.m. Sunday, the 1VOX youth choir will present “Christmas Unplugged.”

Trinity Lutheran Church (LC-MS)

The sermon for the third Sunday in Advent is titled, “Go Tell John What You Have Seen and Heard,” from Luke 7:18-28. The Sunday school Christmas program will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

United Church of Norman — UCC

Delivering the message Sunday will be Tom Schott, Ph.D. His message is titled “Who Are You Waiting For?” The scripture will be Phillipians 4:4-7.

University Christian Church

Sherlock Bally will speak Sunday morning. Bally has been an ordained minister for more than 33 years which included a television and radio ministry in Trinidad reaching most of the Caribbean. In 2006, he was appointed by the Christian Allies Caucus of the Knesset as their liaison to the pastors of North America.

Victory Church of Norman

Lay Minister Paul Kingery plans to preach a sermon titled “God’s Plan — Not Ours,” from Matthew 2:1-12.

Wildwood Community Church

Teaching Pastor Bruce A. Hess will speak on “The First Christmas Greeting.”
