NORMAN — Brookhaven Baptist Church will host its second annual Neighborhood Yard Sale at 8 a.m. today and Saturday.
The sale includes anyone in the neighborhood of the church’s facilities at 4301 Country Club Terrace.
Neighbors sell their own things and keep the money they make.
The event is not a fundraiser for the church. Last year’s event was a Serve Oklahoma project by the church. Neighbors weren’t required to pay any fee to participate and included at least four different families from the neighborhood.
Pastor Jim Hoipkemier estimated that more than 500 people came to the sale last year and was impressed that every neighbor involved gave a donation to the church from their own proceeds.
Most sales will be set up in the fellowship hall on the west end of the facility.
Hoipkemier said during last year’s sale, he overheard a few shoppers who said, “I didn’t know there was an active church back here.” The pastor laughed it off and said that events like this will hopefully change that and that he hopes many shoppers will come this weekend.
