Concerts planned for Easter week

NORMAN — Celebrate the Easter season during “Lamb of God,” a musical by Rob Gardner, presented by the Central Saints Chorus and orchestra during three free concerts in the metro area.

Performances are 7 p.m. April 13 in Norman at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint meetinghouse, 1506 W. Imhoff Road; 7 p.m. April 19 in Moore at the LDS meetinghouse, 493 N. Santa Fe Ave.; and 7 p.m. April 20 in Oklahoma City at the LDS meetinghouse, 5020 NW 63 St.

Zach Tanner, who conducts the 90-member choir and orchestra, said the music in “Lamb of God” is incredibly profound in the way it takes you on a musical journey through the final days of Jesus Christ.

“What is particularly moving about this work is that it focuses on some of the untold thoughts and feelings of those people who were closest to the Savior: his friends and family,” Tanner said. “You’ll hear Peter express feelings of self-loathing upon realizing what he’s done by denying Christ, Thomas’ awe and renewed faith at seeing the resurrected Christ, and most poignantly, the message of hope that comes through Jesus Christ from the person who knew him best, his mother, Mary.”

The orchestra is made up of nearly 40 people of different faiths who volunteered their time and talent.

“Having a full orchestra with a program like this is really something special,” Tanner said. “It adds so much depth and emotion to the sound that simply cannot be conveyed otherwise.”

Soloists include Justin Clayton as John; Robert Ward as Thomas; Chuck Edgington as Peter; Lindsay Goodson as Martha; Roderick Davies as Judas; Dale Tanner as Pilate; Kelly Bentley as Mary the mother of Jesus; and Catherine Thomas as Mary Magdalene.
