NORMAN — Mustafa Akyol to speak Sunday

First Presbyterian Church, 555 S. University Blvd., will host Mustafa Akyol at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Akyol will give a presentation on his book “Islam without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty.”

Akyol is a columnist for two Turkish newspapers, Hürriyet Daily News and Star. His articles also have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.

Singles event set for tonight

The First Baptist Church of Moore, 301 NE 27th St., will host Friday Night Live for Him 7:30 tonight. The evening will feature speaker Doug Dees. Recreation to follow until 10 p.m. There is an optional dinner for $5 at 6:30 p.m.

Goodrich to host safety meeting

Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church, 200 W. Hayes St., will host a Neighborhood Safety Meeting from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21.

Following light refreshments and a welcome from church officials, representatives from the Norman Police Department will address crime prevention, neighborhood safety and the importance of developing Neighborhood Watch Associations.

Blessing of the Animals Sunday

First Presbyterian Church, 555 S. University St., will host its annual Blessing of the Animals, under the direction of Rev. Pam Normile, at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the back of the west parking lot, “Willie’s Garden.”

The event is open to the community, and pet owners are asked to leash animals upon arrival.

ULCSC bids farewell to members

A farewell reception will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday between services at University Lutheran Church and Student Center, 914 Elm Ave., for Dr. Gary and Mary Sue Schnell.

The Schnells have been active in many areas of church for 42 years. The community is invited to join members in celebrating their retirement to Pennsylvania.
