Jefferson
The following volunteers assisted with CRT testing at Jefferson last week: Chris Nanny, Ann Swift, Pat Bond, Shauna Armstrong, Stephanie McGinnis, Lynsey Mathews, Joni Darnell, Tracie Walker, Corie Schwemley and Michelle Breedlove.
Monday, Jefferson will hold an assembly kicking off the Diabetes Walk Philanthropy. The school also will recognize runners who participated in the Oklahoma City Children's Memorial Marathon. Second-graders will go to the Oklahoma City Zoo that day as well.
Tuesday, author Darleen Bailey Beard will visit students. Also that day, students in fifth grade will have an informational meeting from Longfellow Middle School teachers at 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday evening, there will be a "Celebration of Teaching" dinner honoring Norman's teachers of the year, including Jefferson's own teacher of the year, Kerri Grigor.
Fine Dining will be Thursday for selected fourth and fifth grade students. The Jefferson jazzers also will have their annual concert at 1:45 and 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend.
Friday, the school will honor "Caring" Terrific Kids during Good Morning Dragons. Also that day, students in all grades will participate in Jefferson's annual art day.
Moore Norman Technology Center
The Norman Kiwanis Club recognized one adult and one high school student as April Students of the Month from Moore Norman Technology Center. They represent full-time programs in the Health Careers and the Business Information Technology study areas.
Heather McCracken is a Westmoore High School senior and student in MNTC's Accounting program. She is a member of the Business Professionals of America student organization, and is a member of the Superintendent's Leadership Class. She also serves as vice president of the MNTC Deaf Leadership Club. McCracken is also a student in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at MNTC, and was named Miss Deaf Oklahoma, 2007. This spring she competed in the Financial Math and Analysis and Fundamental Accounting categories in the BPA district competition.
After graduation this May, she looks to pursue a degree at Oklahoma State University this fall.
Karla Ostorga is a student in the Medical Assisting program. She is a member of the Health Occupations Students of America and has served as treasurer and committee chair for the Medical Assisting National Recognition Week this school year. She has already earned her CPR Healthcare Provider certification, and after graduation in May, will sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants Certified Medical Assisting Exam. She recently competed in HOSA student competition in the Anatomy in Clay division.
After graduation from the program this May, Ostorga plans to work as a certified medical assistant, and continue her education and earn an associate degree in medical assisting.
