Champion body

NORMAN — Charissa Nguyen has dedicated the last 16 years of her life to personal training. The lead trainer at All-American Fitness Xpress 24/7 has also been competing in body building competitions for 14 of those years.

Nguyen, 35, competed in her second Oklahoma National Physique Committee Championship, June 13. She is no stranger to this event. Winning it in 2010 she gained the title of Miss Oklahoma.

Nguyen, an Oklahoma City native, didn't compete in last year’s competition, but was looking to take back her title that she worked so hard to win two years ago. Nguyen also wanted to stay perfect in the NPC Championship. She knew this wasn't going to be easy and engaged in hard workouts for months leading up to the competition.

“ My workouts consisted of cardio workouts twice a day while also doing heavy weightlifting almost everyday,” said Nguyen. “ I would also eat up to six small meals a day, which included low glycemic carbohydrates and quality protein.”

On the day of the tournament, after all the months of hard work, Nguyen did what she set out to do and reclaimed the NPC Championship and the title of Miss Oklahoma. She not only won the middleweight class but also took home the overall title. This win pushed her record in the event to 2-0 and set her up to try to defend her crown again next year.

“After winning the NPC Championship I was very excited, and it was fun taking it all in,” said Nguyen. “Coming back in 2013 and defending my title is a possibility, but right now I’m focused on my next competition.”

The next event for Nguyen is the 2012 Europa Get Fit & Sports Expo at the Dallas Convention Center in Aug. 17 and 18.
