Some tough first-round tests await area playoff squads

NORMAN — Six area teams have advanced to the postseason, and each enters in a unique situation, from upstart challengers to expected title contenders. Here’s the slate of area games scheduled for this week.

Southmoore at Norman North

7:30 p.m. Friday at Norman High: As a reward for winning District 6A-3, Norman North was awarded a date with a dangerous Southmoore team that, until a late-season dive, was considered one of the best teams in the west.

So dangerous, in fact, that Southmoore defeated Westmoore in non-district play. The Jaguars are the only team to hand a defeat to the T-Wolves in this season.

The winner will meet the winner of Broken Arrow-Sand Springs.

Yukon at Norman High

7 p.m. Thursday at Norman High: In a rematch of Week 3, the Millers will visit the Tigers with a trip to the second round on the line. As the No. 2 seed in District 6A-4, NHS won the right to host the game and chose to schedule it for Thursday, while Yukon defeated Putnam City North in a Week 10 battle to earn third place in District 6A-3.

In the teams’ first meeting, NHS entered the second half trailing 21-17, but took control in the third quarter. The Tigers shut out the Millers after the break and walked out with a 34-21 victory.

The winner will advance to face the Owasso-Sapulpa winner on Nov. 16.

Kingston at Washington

7:30 p.m. Friday at Washington: The Warriors rebounded from a 1-3 start to the season with a six-game winning streak to end it. That includes a big Week 10 victory over Lindsay to wrap up second place in District 2A-3, while Kingston comes in as the No. 3 team from 2A-4.

The winner will advance to play either Crooked Oak or Hennessey.

Westmoore at Tulsa Union

7:30 p.m. Friday at Tulsa Union: Westmoore played a solid game on Friday, nearly upsetting one of the top teams in the state in Broken Arrow.
