NORMAN — With 4:10 left in the fourth quarter, Diantre Cutliff gave the Lions a 64-63 advantage. That would be their last lead of the games as Justin Bean took over for Southmoore en route to a 74-69 win over Moore.
Bean outscored the Lions 9-2 to give the Cats a 72-66 advantage with 40 seconds left on the clock. That was all Southmoore needed to hold on the rest of the way.
“It means more than everything for me,” Bean said. “It was a huge win for us. We battled together and that’s the main reason we got it done.”
Bean scored 11 of his game high 25 points in the final period. Preston Smith added 14.
Dante Butler paced the Lions with 19 points. Jaylin Wilson added 17.
But Moore coach Aaron Howell could not get over his team’s inability to stop Bean.
“One kid destroyed us,” Howell said. “We didn’t have anyone that wanted to step up and deny. Nobody wanted to block him out of rebounds. Basically, one kid destroyed us. He worked us.”
Southmoore girls 64, Moore 56: The Lions battled the SaberCats the entire night and trailed by 9 with five minutes left in the game.
But Southmoore went on a late run to put the contest away and stay undefeated on the season.
Moore’s Amanda Patterson poured in 27 points. Alyssa Jones led the Cats with 24 points. Sieratha Hawkins added 16.
