FULLERTON, Calif. — Oklahoma opened its season on Friday, but not in the way the Sooners would have liked. No. 12 Kentucky knocked off second-ranked OU in extra innings in the opener when Christian Stokes doubled to score a run in the 10th inning.
Sophomore transfer Kelsey Stevens started the game for OU, going six innings and giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out five. She left the game with a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning, but the Wildcats added another solo home run to tie the game and sent it into extra innings.
The Sooners had plenty of offense of their own, though they ultimately came up one hit short. Lauren Chamberlain homered in the third inning, giving her 61 for her career and tying her with recently-graduated Jessica Shults for the most in OU and Big 12 history. Shelby Pendley and Georgia Casey also homered in the game.
The Sooners also played Cal-State Fullerton in the late game, and will take on Santa Clara and Loyola-Marymount today.
