OSU freshman basketball player arrested

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State University freshman basketball player Stevie Clark was arrested on marijuana possession charges at 9:57 a.m. Wednesday by Edmond Police, Police spokeswoman Jennifer Monroe said.

Clark, 19, a guard, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling north on Interstate 35 at 33rd Street. An Edmond Police officer stopped the vehicle for a seat-belt violation. The officer determined there was marijuana in the vehicle and arrested Clark and the driver. Clark had been released from jail by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Clark has played in nine games for the OSU men’s basketball team this season. He hasn’t started, but is averaging 16.6 minutes of playing time. He is averaging 7 points a game and has 11 steals.

Clark was suspended from the team in November when the Pokes were on a Florida road trip. He was reinstated after the team returned to Stillwater and played in the Dec. 6 contest against South Carolina in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Clark played high school basketball at Douglass High School in Oklahoma City.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oklahoma State University athletics had not commented about Clark’s arrest.

The Cowboys sustained a blow Monday night when starting center Michael Cobbins ruptured an Achille’s tendon. Cobbins will have surgery today and is out for the season.

The sixth-ranked Cowboys (12-1) opens the Big 12 Conference season at 3 p.m. Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. against Kansas State. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
