Westmoore football coach steps down

NORMAN — After four years as Westmoore’s head football coach, Billy Langford has decided to step down. He told his assistant coaches and school administration Monday that he had made his decision.

“It was a tough decision just because this was something I’ve done my whole career,” Langford said. “I think it’s 16 years now. It was kind of surreal today telling people that I am no longer going to be a football coach. It’s kind of weird those words coming out of my mouth. It was definitely difficult. But at the same time, well worth it.”

According to Langford, he started to think about stepping away right after the end of this past season. His reasoning for stepping away from football now is wanting to be around his kids as they grow up.

“I am going to spend some time with my family,” Langford said. “I’ve got a daughter that’s a freshman, I’ve got two boys that in a couple of years will be junior high kids. I think I’m ready to spend some time with those guys. That’s my plan anyway.”

Langford said he has no immediate plans to coach again but he will not rule it out.

I am never going to say never,” Langford said. “I live in Blanchard. And that’s where my kids go to school. I’ve thought about coaching my own kids at some point, or at least be part of it. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do either. Or just sit back watch and enjoy. I’m not sure about it. I’m just going to enjoy the time I have with them. Just going to see how things work out.”

Langford has been coaching for 16 years and a has been a head coach for nine. That included five years at Blanchard.
