ATHENS, Ga. — Trying to remain in contention as USC runs away from the field, the Oklahoma women received another strong round from an unlikely source on Day 2 of the NCAA golf championships.
No. 5 player Taylor Schmidt fired off a second-round 73 to go with an opening 71 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. At even-par 144 after 36 holes, she is the only Sooner among the top 20 in the medalist standings.
Wednesday, OU shot its second consecutive 291 to hang in eighth place halfway through the national tournament, 22 strokes back of the Trojans.
Also for OU Wednesday, defending NCAA medalist Chirapat Jao-Javanil rebounded five strokes to shoot 70 and keep OU on the first third of the leaderboard. Anne-Catherine Tanguay followed a 72 with a 74 and Kaitlin Rohrbach followed a 74 with a 77 that had to be counted after Emily Collins dropped eight strokes from one round to the next, struggling to a 79.
