NORMAN — Westmoore’s Sydney Chastain pulled the rebound and drove coast to coast. She got all the way to Putnam City’s basket and jumped into the contact on her way.
The layup missed, no foul was called, and Putnam City hung on for a 51-50 win over Westmoore on Thursday that ended the Jags’ season in the first round of the Class 6A area tournament.
Westmoore trailed for most of the second half, and only had a chance because Putnam City missed its final six free throws in the last minute of the game. The Jags took advantage, getting a 3-pointer and a pair of fouls shots by Chastain along with two more free throws from Victoria Lay to close what had been a 51-43 lead with under a minute left into a one-possession game.
With the win, Putnam City advances to face Norman North at 3 p.m. Saturday in Yukon with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Westmoore ends its season at 14-11.
