Clash today on small diamond

Injury knocks out CCS’ quarterback: The two-quarterback system put in place this year at CCS may not be over, but it will be a while before the Royals return to it. That’s because Haddon McIntosh went down in last week’s victory over Destiny Christian with a knee injury, and it’s not yet known how long he will be out.

With McIntosh out, the Royals (2-1) will turn to the other half of their one-two punch at quarterback to lead them full-time at Wynnewood on Friday. JJ Cortez has performed well this season, and will now have the responsibility full-time.

“It puts more pressure on him, but he’s a great kid and played really well,” coach Paul Potter said. “He’s making great reads and he’s a really tough kid, which helps.”

Washington down one Warrior: Washington (2-1) hasn’t been immune to the injury bug. The Warriors, fresh off a 2-1 start playing up against three Class 3A schools, have sustained a few bumps and bruises along the way.

And one athlete, Andrew Wilkerson, went down with more than that. Wilkerson injured his shoulder last week and will miss two weeks for the Warriors, who begin district play against Frederick (0-3) on Friday.
