Freshman Nina Jabrzemski won the event going away for North, highlighting a strong performance by a roster where five of the six players haven’t been on the team before. Three freshmen and three juniors made up the Timberwolves’ top six, and only junior Presley Rhea has any experience at North after failing to make the team last season but working hard in the offseason to improve enough to play this year. Along with Annabeth Gannon, Presley finished fourth at two doubles on Friday. It was a finish coach Jamie Wilson said he was satisfied to see from such a new team.
But it was the freshman who stole the show for North. Jabrzemski didn’t allow an opponent to win more than three games against her as she cruised to the title.
“She’s a really good player,” Wilson said. “She plays a lot during the summertime and offseason. She’s strong, she’s accurate and she’s well-disciplined. And she has a great attitude. I love the way she plays and handles herself.”
