NORMAN — It was a huge wrestling season for Norman High, which won more dual matches than it had in several years and qualified four for Friday and Saturday’s state wrestling tournament at State Fair Arena.

And, the Tigers will surely be highly motivated next year. Because the program’s still building, but also because the Tigers are having a difficult state tournament.

Between 106-pounder Nigel Joliffie, 113-pounder Derek Ross, 138-pounder Colin Pasque and 195-pounder Cael Stumpff, only Pasque will be back today after winning his first consolation-round match, 4-3, over Broken Arrow’s Braxton Owens.

Still, beyond the Tigers and Timberwolves, a few area grapplers are still having terrific state tournaments.

Moore’s Derek Sivertsen (182), Southmoore’s Nathan Marek (170) and Westmoore’s Dalton Duffield (106) and John Finn (220) are all wrestling for state championships today.

Siversten will meet Edmond North’s Lance Dixon, Marek will meet Edmond North’s Derek White, Duffield will meet Edmond North’s Jordan Prince and Finn will meet Edmond North’s Andrew Dixon.

Also still wrestling are Noble’s Trevor Symes (106) and Tristin Rabe (138), who both came back with victories Friday afternoon after losing their first match.
