OKLAHOMA CITY — The competition’s going to get better for Norman North, with Moore visiting Thursday and the Timberwolves trekking to Stillwater on Friday.
Monday, though, was North’s season opener and if coach Brian Aylor didn’t love it, he still walked away with a 20-1 victory at Putnam City West.
Aylor thought his pitchers could have had a little more command and his hitters might have had better at bats against the not-great pitching of the Patriots.
Still, the T-Wolves banged out 16 hits and only had to play five innings.
On the mound it was DJ Gasso getting the win, throwing a planned three innings in which he allowed a single hit, struck out two and walked three.
At the plate, Joe Nostrand went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Daniel Herrin went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Cal Snodgrass finished with three singles before coming around to score each time.
North whacked all five of the game’s extra-base hits, getting triples from Luke Jones, Austin Taylor and Brad Kinsey and doubles from Austin Cranford and Nick Basquinne.
After playing Monday on the Pats home field, the same two teams meet at 4:30 p.m. today at Tull Lake Park, North’s home field.
