North sweeps pool play

NORMAN — Another come-from-behind victory propelled Norman North to an undefeated record at the Aggie Classic in Pensacola, Fla., though the T-Wolves won’t be able to ride it to a championship game.

North overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Milton, Fla. 4-3 in extra innings on Wednesday. However, because of the way the tiebreakers fell, North will play for third place at 4 p.m. today instead of first.

“The tiebreaker is runs allowed, and there were a few teams that only allowed two through the entire tournament,” coach Brian Aylor said. “But we’re excited to play for third place, and we took care of the things we could control. To go undefeated through our bracket is an incredible accomplishment for this team.”

On Wednesday, North trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning before tying the game and then taking the lead in the fifth inning. But Milton rallied with a run to tie and had the winning run inches from the plate when North outfielder Joe Nostrand gunned out the runner at home.

That took it into extra innings, where North brought in the winning run on a passed ball.

DJ Gasso led the way at the plate for North, batting 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Austin Cranford picked up the win in relief.
