NORMAN — Top-ranked Oklahoma rolled to a pair of victories Wednesday at Wichita State, with the Sooners rolling up 23 runs over two games.
OU (30-2) topped the Shockers (12-17) 7-1 in the first game of the doubleheader before rolling to a 16-1, five-inning victory in the nightcap. The two wins moved coach Patty Gasso to 901 in her record at OU.
In the first game, Keilani Ricketts picked up the win by retiring the game’s final 13 batters as she moved to 15-1. She gave up just two hits while striking out nine. Ricketts also contributed at the plate when she hit a 2-run home run in the sixth inning. Callie Parsons also set a career high with 2 RBIs.
If the Sooners were efficient in the first game, they were dominant in the second.
The Sooners accumulated five home runs in the win, one short of the school record. Two of the shots came from sophomore Jessica Vest, who had the first multi-home run game of her career while totaling a career-high 7 RBIs. Freshman Whitney Ellis recorded the first of her career at OU with a solo home run, and fellow freshman Leslie Miller also hit the first home run of her career. The 15-run margin of victory was OU’s largest of the season.
After taking the Easter weekend off, the Sooners will next take the field at 5 p.m. at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Louisiana-Lafayette.
