NORMAN — Norman North cruised to a huge win Thursday in the opening round of the Duncan tournament.
The Timberwolves squared off against an overmatched U.S. Grant team and pulled away early en route to a 89-16 victory. Haley Woodard led North with 22 points, while Bri Kuestersteffen added 17 and Tia Williams had eight points and five assists.
Coach Jeff Blough was pleased with the way his team attacked on defense and how aggressive Woodard in particular was on offense. The T-Wolves caused a number of turnovers, and Paige Canty tied a school record with nine steals.
“Paige, Haley and Tia all played great tonight,” he said. “It was great to see Haley attacking tonight, and she’s got to keep doing that for us.”
North faces Elk City at 7 tonight in the semifinals of the tournament.
