North’s Evans named district MVP

Laffoon commits to ORU: North senior Trent Laffoon committed last week to play for Oral Roberts University.

Laffoon, a defender on the defending soccer state champion Timberwolves, will join the Golden Eagles next year playing the same position and try to help turn the program around. ORU finished 9-12-1 last year and 5-13-1 this season.

NHS announces team awards: District 6A-4 awards have been announced, but Norman High’s football coaches have also handed out their internal team awards.

Quarterback Zach Long, who led the Tigers’ triple option attack that keyed them to a 9-3 record this year, was named team MVP. Zach Uhles and Imond Robinson split offensive player of the year honors, and Blake Dean was named the defensive player of the year. Kicker Matt Hockett earned special teams player of the year honors.

Basketball games rescheduled: North has announced the date of its rescheduled games with Del City. The contests were suppose to take place two weeks ago, but the football team’s run to the state title game caused them to be delayed.

The varsity games, originally scheduled for Dec. 4, will be played on Monday, Jan. 14 at North. The games will supersede the Clash sophomore game that was scheduled on that date. That game has not yet been rescheduled.
