AMES, Iowa — As October became November, Oklahoma volleyball was rolling. But that was a long time ago for coach Santiago Restrepo and his band of Sooners.
Saturday’s 3-0 (14-25, 22-25, 24-26) loss at No. 25 Iowa State made three straight defeats for the Sooners, who remain in fourth place in the Big 12 standings.
The Sooners (18-7, 6-5 Big 12) hit just .086 in the first set, setting a tone for the match that could not be overcome. Overall, OU hit at a .142 clip, compared to Iowa State’s .254.
It’s the first time OU has lost three connective matches since the 2011 season.
In addition to having to face down a ranked team like the Cyclones (16-6, 9-2), the Sooners also battled one of the best fan bases in the conference, as 3,307 were on hand for the match at Hilton Coliseum.
Sallie McLaurin led the Sooners with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Kierra Holst added seven kills and McKaela Spann and Keila Rodriguez both had six, though Spann’s .200 hitting percentage was the best of the bunch.
MacKenzie Bigbee led the Cyclones with 13 kills and a .370 hitting percentage.
OU returns to the court at 7 p.m. Wednesday to face TCU inside McCasland Field House.
