NORMAN — The United States softball team bounced back this week from a pair of losses to Japan in the World Cup of Softball last week by knocking off the Japanese on Wednesday in the Canadian Fastpitch Open.
Now the Americans are on track to win the entire tournament.
The playoffs of the six-team tournament begin today, and the U.S. will begin as the top seed after going undefeated through pool play. They’ll meet the bottom seed at 3 p.m. today.
The squad, which features Oklahoma players Lauren Chamberlain and Destinee Martinez as well as Tulsa pitcher Amie Creger, finished second at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City a week ago for just the second time in the tournament’s history after Japan beat them 6-3 in the title game. But the Americans responded in Canada with a 10-3 run-rule victory over Japan earlier in the week and will likely face the team again in the playoffs.
The other national teams at the event include Japan, Canada, Venezuela and Australia.
