Tigers take series with Timberwolves

NORMAN — Heather Jones made her final Crosstown Clash contest a game to remember.

The Norman High senior not only turned in one of her best games of the season in the team’s 11-2 victory over Norman North, but she was the one to end it, with a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning that completed the run-rule victory.

The win completed the season sweep over North and was the perfect send-off for Jones and the rest of the senior class, coach Andrea Harrison said.

“For my seniors, it’s a good opportunity to come out and finish it on the note they wanted to,” she said. “I’m proud of the way they played today.”

It was a game the Tigers were looking forward to ever since dropping a game to their rivals during the fastpitch season at Oklahoma’s Marita Hynes Field. They got some payback when they defeated North earlier this month on the road, but it wasn’t in the dominating fashion of Thursday’s game.

The Tigers scored in four of five innings, taking a 5-1 lead into the fifth inning and breaking out in the inning to end the game. A North error helped the Tigers start off the inning, and a pair of walks loaded the bases. Several hits followed, and the bases were again loaded when Jones stepped to the plate.

And the senior made the most of her final Clash at-bat. She ripped a hit to the wall in right field that turned into a triple and brought in all three runs to complete the victory.

It capped a career night for Jones, and one in which she came just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. She finished with a single and two doubles to go along with her triple on her way to finishing 4-for-4 with six RBIs.
