Changing the game

NORMAN — First quarter, 11:00: Norman North grabbed early momentum by forcing Jenks running back Trey’Vonne Barr’e into a fumble, which Justin Martin recovered at the Trojans’ 45-yard line. That gave North the chance to draw first blood, but Jenks held the T-Wolves to a three-and-out, forcing a punt and setting up Barr’e’s big play on the next possession.

First quarter, 10:21: After getting the ball back, Barr’e made up for his fumble, turning a simple running play into an 88-yard gain that set the Trojans up at the North five and led to a Braden Calip touchdown that put Jenks up 6-0.

Second quarter, 9:52: Down 6-0, North was driving deep into Jenks territory and looking to tie the game. Peyton Gavras was looking to connect with a receiver on a crossing route, but slightly overthrew him. Jenks’ Braden Calip leapt high into the air over the receiver and pulled down a beautiful one-handed interception to take away the momentum. That set up a 35-yard Barr’e touchdown.

Third quarter, 11:45: In need of a spark to make the game competitive, North found it on the first snap of the second half. Gavras found Higginbotham on a deep route down the middle of the field, and Higginbotham was able to out-race the defense for a 61-yard score.

Third quarter, 7:05: With North threatening to climb back into the game, Jenks faced a third-and-long from its own 34. It looked like the Timberwolves would be able to get another stop and try to continue the comeback, but Trojans quarterback Kyle Alexander found Trey Michalczewski for a 66-yard touchdown that firmly established Jenks’ control.
