Full slate of home playoffs set for Tuesday

NORMAN — What a night it might be.

The Class 6A state soccer playoffs begin Tuesday night with all four Norman teams playing host to first-round opponents. And while that’s well and good, bigger news is what those four games will produce if everything goes according to form:

Two Crosstown Clashes.

The district champion Norman North girls (10-2-1, 6-1 District 6A-2) play host to Southmoore (8-5, 3-4 District 6A-1).

The Norman High girls (10-3, 6-1 District 6A-1) play host to Mustang (9-4, 5-2 District 6A-2).

The district champion Norman North boys (10-3, 7-0 District 6A-2) play host to Yukon (8-6, 4-3 District 6A-1).

The Norman High boys (12-1, 6-1 District 6A-1) play host to Bishop McGuinness (6-4, 4-3 District 6A-2).

The girls play at 6 p.m.

The boys play at 8 p.m.

The winner of the two girls games meet three days later on May 3. The winner of the two boys teams meet three days later on May 3.

If the North girls and boys both win, both will retain home field for the second round.

Either NHS team to retaining home field would demand North falling in the first round, a very unlikely prospect.

It will be the first meeting of the season between the NHS and Mustang girls, as well as the North and Yukon boys and the NHS and McGuinness boys.

The North girls have faced Southmoore, winning a 2-0 decision on a frigid opening night.

NHS and North have also met once this season, with the North girls claiming a 2-0 victory and the NHS boys topping the defending state champion T-Wolves 1-0 in a shootout at Oklahoma’s John Crain Field.

Noble at home: The Noble girls (13-0, 7-0 District 5A-2), who claimed their first district championship with Tuesday’s 2-0 victory at Durant, open the playoffs at home Tuesday against Northwest Classen (7-6, 4-3 District 5A-1).

The Bears have allowed just one goal all season.
