Cowgirls remaining wary of Red Raiders

NORMAN — Texas Tech will enter Gallagher-Iba Arena still searching for its first Big 12 victory. Oklahoma State will need to remain focused for the 6-10 team.

The No. 11 ranked Cowgirls will host Texas Tech, who is 0-5 in Big 12 play up to this point, at noon today. OSU will be looking to extend their winning streak to four games in a row. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Oklahoma.

“Sometimes 0-5 teams are as dangerous as 5-0 teams because they’re hungry. They’re going to be well prepared and will be anxious to get a conference win,” Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. “We’re trying to get our team to approach every game likes it’s a playoff game. That way when we get to the Big 12 tournament we’ll have 18 playoff games under our belt.”

Texas Tech owns the series over OSU 32-20. Lady Raiders coach Candi Whitaker was at Oklahoma State last season with Littell. The Cowgirls will see a familiar face on the other sideline.

“To me it’s another game. It’s a home game and it’s a must-win. I don’t care who I’m coaching against, I’m trying to prepare my team to get ready for a win,” Littell said.

Oklahoma State has struggled with its intensity level in practice. But following Thursday’s practice Littell said that it was the Cowgirls’ best practice in quite some time.

“I think that we really realize that if you have good practices leading up to a game it makes you a little more prepared and you are a little more focused and disiciplined in the game,” Oklahoma State senior guard Tiffany Bias said.

Bias is 10 assists shy of 700 in her career and 14 points away from 1,400 points.

Texas Tech’s Amber Battle leads the Red Raiders with 18.2 points a game. Battle is fourth in the league in scoring and third in rebounding with 8.1 boards a game.
