North girls come from way behind

NORMAN — Norman North girls beat Bixby 41-39 and sealed the third place victory in the NEO tourney.

Coach Jeff Blough said the North girls were down by 17 points going into the fourth quarter and came back to win. The team had suffered a heart-wrenching loss at the buzzer on Friday night.

“We’re missing three key players out with concussions and injuries,” Blough said. “For us to do this with new kids was a huge win.”

In 18 years of coaching, Blough said he’s never seen anything like this comeback.

Haley Woodard scored 14 points in the fourth quarter by securing multiple steals and rebounds.

“She led the way and everyone followed,” Blough said.

Freshman Crymson Rose stepped up and scored six, while Alexa Scott scored 10 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Scott hit a 3-pointer to bring the team within one point with about 30 seconds to go, then Aspen Knight stole the ball, was fouled and hit two key free throws to seal the victory.

“It as an unbelievable game,” Blough said. “I’m so proud of these kids.”

Star Spencer 54, Norman High boys 50: Norman High came close, but the Tigers couldn’t quite seal the deal.

After being tied at 50-all with 20 seconds left to play in Saturday’s consolation final game at Carl Albert, it was Star Spencer that scored the game’s final points, sealing the victory with free throws after a hard-fought game.

Next up for NHS is a trip to Del City on Tuesday in a makeup game.
