LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) —
The game was delayed for an hour and 19 minutes due to a thunderstorm that moved through the area. The delay came with 44 seconds left in the first quarter with the game scoreless — thanks to both teams failing to convert fourth-down plays deep in the opposing team’s territory.
“Until the delay, we were somewhat limited to do what benefits our offense,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said. “... It helped us today because they had a nice running scheme and we were able to make that adjustment. When we came back out after the delay, we were more effective stopping the run.”
No. 6 Kansas State 27, Iowa State 21: AMES, Iowa (AP) — Kansas State’s offense is at its best when quarterback Collin Klein has the ball in his hands as much as possible.
Klein ran for 105 yards and three touchdowns and sixth-ranked Kansas State held off Iowa State 27-21 for its fifth straight win over the Cyclones.
Klein also threw for 187 yards for the Wildcats (6-0, 3-0 Big 12), who held the ball for over 40 minutes, converted on eight of 17 third downs and remained unbeaten heading into next week’s showdown with West Virginia.
Kansas State held the Cyclones (4-2, 1-2) to just 231 yards of offense, in large part because Klein hardly ever let them touch the ball.
TCU 49, Baylor 21: WACO, Texas (AP) — Trevone Boykin threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns, all those scores coming on third-down plays, and TCU won 49-21 at Baylor on Saturday night to end the Bears’ nine-game home winning streak.
Boykin, the redshirt freshman who completed 22 of 30 passes without a turnover, added 56 yards rushing with a late 3-yard TD for the Horned Frogs (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) in his second start.
The Horned Frogs took advantage of six turnovers by Baylor (3-2, 0-2). That included four interceptions by Nick Florence, who had TD passes of 74 and 77 yards to Terrance Williams.
