NORMAN — Markel Brown scored 21 points, Phil Forte hit four 3-pointers and had 19 points and Oklahoma State routed Texas Tech 79-45 on Saturday.
After losing the Bedlam rivalry game last weekend against Oklahoma, the Cowboys (12-4, 2-2 Big 12) called this “Commitment Week” and dedicated themselves to returning to the stiff defense that had propelled them into the Top 25 earlier this season.
They ended up holding Texas Tech (8-8, 1-4) to a season-worst 29 percent shooting. Jaye Crockett scored 11 points and Jordan Tolbert added 10 for the Red Raiders.
No. 4 Kansas 64, Texas 59: Ben McLemore scored 16 points and Kansas stormed back from a late double-digit deficit for its 15th straight win.
Jeff Withey added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Jayhawks (16-1, 4-0 Big 12), who trailed by 11 points in the second half before McLemore steered a rally that prevented the reeling Longhorns (8-9, 0-4) from a badly needed victory in this troubled season.
Travis Releford added 12 points for Kansas.
Sheldon McClennan led the Longhorns with 18 points. Texas has lost four straight, its longest losing streak since coach Rick Barnes’ first season in 1998-99.
Iowa State 63, TCU 50: Tyrus McGee scored 16 points off the bench, Will Clyburn added 12 and Iowa State beat TCU 63-50 on Saturday for its third straight victory.
The Cyclones (13-4, 3-1 Big 12) are off to their best start in conference play since starting 4-0 in 2000. Melvin Ejim had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Iowa State, which hasn’t lost since dropping an overtime game to No. 4 Kansas.
TCU (9-9, 0-5) has lost five in a row by an average of 13 points. Garlon Green, Devonta Abron and Charles Hill Jr. scored 10 points each to lead TCU.
Purdue 79, West Virginia 52: D.J. Byrd scored 17 points to help Purdue defeat West Virginia 79-52 on Saturday afternoon.
Rapheal Davis added 16 points, Anthony Johnson 12 and Terone Johnson 11 for the Boilermakers (10-8), who won their third straight.
Purdue shot 49 percent from the field and outrebounded the Mountaineers 44-34.
Eron Harris scored 10 points for West Virginia. West Virginia shot just 29 percent from the field.
Baylor 107, Hardin-Simmons 38: WACO, Texas — Baylor rested its two most prolific scorers and still had a record-setting day against Hardin-Simmons, beating the Cowboys 107-38 on Saturday.
The 69-point win broke the school record for largest margin of victory, bettering a 121-55 win over Austin College in 1978.
